How To Overcome The 9 Mental Blocks to Financial Freedom

How To Overcome The 9 Mental Blocks to Financial Freedom

If you want to become financially free and you aren’t taking the steps to make you free even though you know what they are, then you have a mental block.

When I was doing my first year of Finance Freedom Mastermind, our group did an exercise that brought out a mental block I had towards buying property.

Once I removed it, my husband and I bought our condo just 2 months later.

The exercise only took about 10 minutes to do.

And yet it had a profound effect on my life and the life of my family.

Mental blocks can be overcome, and can be removed/replaced with more empowering thoughts and actions.

If you know what you need to do…

…whether it’s save at least 10% of your income into a financial freedom account

…or just invest wisely instead of gamble…

However, you know you aren’t taking those actions to benefit you financially, then you are suffering from a mental block.

This blog post will help you make real changes, some that will happen almost instantly!

You will be shocked and excited to know that you are SO CLOSE to your dreams of being financially free, and you are about to break through.

So let’s talk about How to Overcome the 9 Mental Blocks to Financial Freedom.

What is Financial Freedom

Before we begin, let’s get on the same page about what is financial freedom.

Financial Freedom = Passive Income > Expenses

Passive Income is money you make from money/assets. Or in other words, it’s money that works for you.

If you’re not sure if you are making Passive income, then ask yourself these 2 questions:

Do you have to spend time to make the money?

Will the money still be made when you die?

If you answered NO to Question #1 and YES to #2 then you have a passive income stream.

Now that we know what Financial freedom is, let’s look at the steps to create it.

Steps to Create Financial Freedom

Now that you know what financial freedom is, let’s go over the basic steps shall we?

Step #1 Pay Yourself First

The first step is to take at least 10% of the money that you make and put it aside for yourself, before you pay any bills, etc.

You can put it in a savings account or in a jar, that money is for your financial freedom, and it’s used to do Step #2.

Step #2 Invest

With the money that you pay yourself first, start to invest. Learn through trial and error and get good at making a return on your investment.

You can google or look on this blog for plenty of ways to invest to create passive income.

Step #3 Pay yourself your passive income

Once you start making money with your investments, pay yourself the money that your money makes.

So, now you know the steps (they really are that easy).

Now let’s really talk, shall we?

Are you stuck at paying yourself first?

I’ve had mastermind members get stuck for MONTHS just to open a savings account to start saving.

Then when they finally open it, they take MONTHS to finally start depositing money into it.

Everyone is a little different, but the steps will show you where you are stuck because suddenly, you’ll find that you are stalling and not doing the next step…

When this happens, it’s time to overcome the mental block that’s stopping you.

The exercises I list next are POWERFUL.

I DARE YOU TO DO THEM AND OVERCOME YOUR MENTAL BLOCKS TO FINANCIAL FREEDOM.

#1 Overcome Childhood Verbal Programming

What we heard growing up affects us greatly if we let it. This is called verbal programming.

There is a way to overcome this obstacle, taken from the book Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T Harv Eker (p. 25).

AWARENESS: Write down all you heard about money, wealth and rich people when you were young.

UNDERSTANDING: Write down how you believe the statements have affected your financial life so far.

DISASSOCIATION: Can you see that these thoughts represent only what you learned and are not part of your anatomy and not who you are? Can you see that you have a choice in the present moment to be different?

DECLARATION: Place your hand over your heart and say…
“What I heard about money isn’t necessarily true. I choose to adopt new ways of thinking that support my happiness and success.”
Put your hand over your heart and say “I have a Millionaire Mind”

#2 Modeling the Behavior We Want

We model behavior to learn, and some of it helps us to succeed and some of it doesn’t. (p. 34, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind)

AWARENESS: Consider the ways of being and habits each of your parents had around money and wealth. Write down how you may be identical or opposite to either of them.

UNDERSTANDING: Write down the effect this modeling has had on your financial life

DISASSOCIATION: Can you see this way of being is only what you learned and isn’t you? Can you see you have a choice in the present moment to be different?

DECLARATION: Place your hand over your heart and say… “What I modeled around money was their way. I choose my way.”

Touch your head and say…
“I have a millionaire mind”

#3 Specific Events

Things happen, and sometimes they really impact us. Let’s explore how to overcome effects of specific events (p. 38, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind)

AWARENESS: Consider a specific emotional incident you experienced around money when you were young.

UNDERSTANDING: Write down how this incident may have affected your current financial life.

DISASSOCIATION: Can you see this way of being is only what you learned and isn’t you? Can you see you have a choice in the present moment to be different?

#4 Do you Feel Worthy

According to the T Harv Eker, we often won’t let ourselves receive wealth because we don’t think that we are worthy of it.

We often wait for others to prove to us our worthiness, when the only one who can deem us worthy is ourselves.

In case you still need someone to prove that you are worthy, then…

Exercise to Feel Worthy
Find a friend and have them say these words “By the power vested in me, I hereby annoint you as worthy, now and forever more.”

Now you are worthy yes? =)

#5 How do you Feel About Yourself

According to the book You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay, all of our problems stem from 1 inner mental issue – feeling unworthy or not loving ourselves.

Exercise to Feel Worthy
Look in your eyes in the mirror and say to yourself “I love and accept you exactly as you are.”

Do this until you know it’s true, and / or everyday.

#6 What are you Giving (are you)?

According to the T Harv Eker, sometimes we block things in our lives because we subconsciously feel that people with those things are evil, or bad, or negative in someway.

So to change our feelings, we need to think more positively about what we want to have.

Blessings Exercise

When you see what you want, bless the person or company who has it.

Bless rich people.

Bless financial freedom, etc

#7 Where is Your Focus?

In order to create great wealth we need to bring service and value to others.

Oftentimes we have a barrier to wealth because we are only thinking about ourselves, our life, our problems…instead of focusing on solving problems for others who will pay us for our solutions.

Gratitude Exercise from the movie The Secret

Instead of focusing on your problems, focus on what you are grateful for.

This will put you in a frequency for receiving.

Write out a list, recite in your mind what you are grateful for when you wake up and when you go to bed, carry a gratitude rock, find your own way to feel grateful everyday!

#8 What’s Your Inner Voice Telling You?

One of my mastermind members recently said his inner voice was not letting him enjoy playing games on his phone because it was constantly saying “be productive” in his parents’ voice.

That’s not a helpful voice.

First of all, it assumed that he wasn’t being productive.

Second, it didn’t allow for him to every have fun!!!

Change Your Inner Voice

When you find a negative thought, replace it with a positive one instead.

“I am productive.”

“I’m enjoying my life and making a difference at the same time.”

“I enjoy my downtime.”

#9 What’s your Story?

From The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles, our thoughts are what creates the life that we have.

So only think and entertain thoughts that will make you rich.

Visualize what You Want

Take the time to plan out in detail exactly what it is that you want with your life, a particular situation, for your wealth, your family, your career, your health.

Take time to mentally see and feel what that would be like.

I’ll tell you some personal examples.

At one point when I was working my job, I kept getting into disagreements with my boss.

I didn’t know what to do it about it, I just knew I was miserable and wanted it to change.

So I imagined what I wanted my relationship with my boss to be like.

I imagined that we were friends, and that he invited me over for dinner at his house, and I was talking to him and his wife and having a good time.

It was funny, because when I did the exercise, I had never even thought about how I wanted the situation to be like.

Do you know, the very next Monday that I went to work, my relationship with my boss was fine.

In fact, I never had difficulties with him again.

Visualization is POWERFUL and IT WORKS if you take the time to do it.

Conclusion

Mental Work is KEY to finding great wealth.

Spend time meditating and re-inventing your life.

Entertain more empowering thoughts.

Sometimes I feel like I’m peeling myself like an onion.

Each layer of dis-empowering thoughts I shed, the more my life gets better and better.

Do the work, and you will be amazed at the results, I promise you that!

About Mey Duldulao

Back in 2011 I had over $30,000 in credit card and line of credit debt, was living paycheck to paycheck and was stressed out over my lack of success in my financial life.

In April of 2016, I became debt free and had a monthly passive income stream. I quit my job on December 23, 2016, and started doing my dream work of mentoring others on what I did to create the freedom to quit my job.

In 2017 we bought our first condo in Waikiki, and we went on 5 weeks of vacation (including a 7 day cruise to the Mexican Riviera)!!!

I spend most of my time doing what I dreamed of for years, spending my days with my son Jordan and my husband Jomel, enjoying motherhood and being a wife. I also enjoy researching Financial Freedom and sharing what I learn with my clients and on my blog.
