Happy Juneteenth – 5 Ways to Free Yourself in 2020

Happy Juneteenth! In honor of freedom, I am writing about 5 Ways to Free Yourself in 2020.

If you don’t know what Juneteenth is, then here is an excerpt from https://www.juneteenth.com/history.htm

————–
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.

Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation – which had become official January 1, 1863.

The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive Order.

However, with the surrender of General Lee in April of 1865, and the arrival of General Granger’s regiment, the forces were finally strong enough to influence and overcome the resistance.

#1 Decide to Be Free and Visualize What That Looks Like

The first step is always to decide to be free.

Now that you’ve decided, what does that look like in your mind?

How will you feel when you are free?

What will you smell?

Will you hear anything?

Who will you be with?

Where will you be?

Visualize in your mind your own Juneteenth, the day that you are set free.

What does it look like and what are you doing?

#2 Meditate/Pray Daily

True freedom is freedom from the outside world.

True freedom is allowing your spirit to be one with God, the universe, all of life, whatever you want to call it.

This is practiced on a daily basis to remind ourselves that we are greater than our human experiences, that we live in the present moment, that we are creators of our life.

I learned meditation, most recently, under Michael Bernard Beckwith of the Agape International Spiritual Center.

I sit still, focus on my breathing.

I meditate as if for the first time, with a beginner’s mind.

And I meditate with the intention of having an awakening with the presence of God.

After I meditate, usually, I realize that I am happy, whole, complete and powerful in the present moment.

It’s easier for me to let past events go, and also let go of dwelling on the future.

#3 Free Others

Look around you and see if you can free someone.

Maybe you are oppressing someone else?

Maybe you are oppressing yourself?

Maybe you see someone else being oppressed or oppressing someone else.

Help others.

That is one way to create more freedom in the world and for yourself.

#4 Introspection / Improve Yourself

When I feel wronged, I ask myself “When do I wrong other people in the same way?”

Then I look inside myself and see if I can become a better person.

Do I yell at people?

Do I blame others?

Do I discriminate between different people?

If I am angry at someone, it’s usually because I’ve done the same thing to someone else, and I feel bad about it.

Make amends.

Improve yourself and your own thinking and behavior.

After all, the only person you can change is you.

#5 Pay Yourself First

If you want to become financially free, then pay yourself first!

How do you do that?

Every time you get money in your life, take 10% or more out first and pay it to yourself.

What does that mean?

It means put it in a savings or investment account so that it can grow and make you passive income in the form of interest and investment income, etc.

It could go into a retirement account as well.

That way, you progressively grow your wealth and your capacity to create your own wealth by investing in yourself and others.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed learning these 5 ways to free yourself in 2020.

I have been practicing these 5 methods and I think they are the best ways to bring more freedom into my life.

See if they work for you!
