Call Me Ted by Ted Turner is a great book written by a man who rocked the advertising world and donated money in a big way – 1 Billion Dollars to the United Nations…which they didn’t accept!

He ended up created the United Nations Foundation to accept the money to support the United Nations efforts in the United States.

He is a fond believer in being friends with other countries, collaborating to solve problems and against nuclear proliferation.

He started his career in billboard advertising in his Dad’s company.

When his Dad committed suicide, he was devastated. He took over the company and expanded it out to other regions.

He was extremely active and always looked ahead to what the future would bring.

He decided to move into radio, then into TV.

He would up viewership by playing Atlanta Brave Games, Atlanta Hawk games, both teams he bought.

He also broadcast old but popular shows like I Love Lucy, Star Trek, Gilligan’s Island, Bugs Bunny. He believed in family programming.

Created Time Warner Broadcasting (TBS) and CNN.

His company merged with Time Warner, making him a multi billionaire.

That’s when he made is pledge to the United Nations.

He was forced out of the company after the merger.

He was married and divorced 3 times.

His second wife Jane Smith did most of the work raising his 5 kids, 2 were from his first marriage.

Jane Fonda said she left Ted due to growing apart spiritually.
