What is Retirement and Do You Want It?

What is Retirement and Do You Want It?

…Mey here blogging quickly on a Saturday evening as my husband takes our son to the store to satisfy his craving for an egg salad sandwich on the topic – What is Retirement and Do You Want It?

…it’s an interesting question and today I was at the funeral of a dear friend who only retired in June 2013 and has passed away at 67, didn’t even collect her social security yet…

…she had plans to travel the world…

…and it struck me to write this very important post…

…because a lot of people work so hard so that they can retire…

…most never do, and working as greeters in Walmart (as my mentor Tracy Walker pointed out)…

…I ask you, if we are to live our fullest life, then why would we ever retire?

…and why would we work a job that we don’t enjoy in the first place?

…I’ve read the biographies of actors, a gas station attendant, and I personally know bloggers, doctors, teachers, and others who love what they do so much that they are going to do it until they die…

…unless they decide to do something else they love more…

…because life is about action, and being alive here and now…

…it’s not about putting in enough time to stop doing something…

…what about you?

…do you dream about your retirement?

…do you worry about whether you will be able to retire?

…maybe it’s time to choose a better path…

…and do something that you can continue to do for the rest of your life with joy and happiness…

…maybe it’s time for you to start doing what I do, and blog about your passions, and make money through the new internet economy that does not discriminate based on your age, or your talents…

…maybe it’s time for you

…leave me a comment below on what you think of retirement…

  1. YES! Loved the blog post… retirement can happen at any age and can look many different ways. My idea of retirement is being about to go anywhere and do anything while being financially FREE! …………Great Blog!

  2. Hi Mey,
It’s true. If you work in a corporate business, you are working for your retirement. It seems like that’s too much of a focus and people forget about now…
I’m very said to hear about friend… 🙁
That’s one of the reasons I want to live my dreams now and enjoy more freedom now. I don’t want to wait until I’m 67.

    1. Thanks for your comment Sharon. Retirement is one of the biggest illusions of our modern world…
