Personal Story About Money, Love and Adventure

…Mey here blogging very late on a Saturday night, after my 2 year old son has finally gone to sleep, my husband was sick so not able to watch him today so that I could blog earlier, here I am finally ready to share with you a Personal Story About Money, Love and Adventure…

…I have a taste for adventure, and recently for money

…let me start from the beginning…

…I went off to Taiwan after graduating from College…

…wanted to learn kung fu and Chinese…

…my father lived there and I stayed with him for a little bit until I settled into life in Taipei…

…what a grand adventure that was!

…I had an “interesting” time with a Korean playboy where I learned about the difference between love and longing…

…and had many adventures in the kindergarten that I taught in to pay for my school and living…

…I tutored very rich people, and traveled all over Taipei…

…always had a swim suit ready when we went hiking in the mountains…

…I remember one of my classmates was studying Chinese art in the Museum, and she only slept 1-2 hours every night…

…she couldn’t sleep any longer than that…

…then off I went to Tainan, to go to another language school and explore the south of Taiwan (and get away from the Korean playboy)…

…it was a cultural center, where I found my kung fu teacher and team…

…began learning how to unleash my power in the Cultural heart of Taiwan…

…taught in a Women’s College, 6 classes with about 50 students in each class!

…biked everywhere, all over…

…was there when we had the earthquake of 9/21…

…after a year I tested into the Master’s degree program at a University in Chia Yi (actually, outside of Chia Yi in tiny Min Hsung)…

…rural, pineapple fields and mango trees, a night market outside on the field every night where the University would eat their dinner…

…still practiced kung fu and became an older kung fu sister…

…would train everyday for 3-4 hours…

…fell in love and 3 years later graduated and got into the University of Hawaii at Manoa PhD program…

…was there 3 years and then one day almost got hit by a pick up truck crossing the street…

…the near death experience triggered a change in me…

…I stopped…

…have you ever just stopped in  your life?

…and just looked and realized you didn’t like where you were…

…and that if life is so precious and short…

…then something was going to have to change?

…everything changed after that moment…

…I broke up with my long distance Taiwan boyfriend of 5 years and dated someone who would help me do all the things that I most feared…

…get kicked out of school…

…get into debt…

…go to court…

…get evicted…

…luckily I did get a good job at the bank where I still work today…

…that job was a miracle in my life…

…and I got away from the boyfriend and moved in with a loving family…

…I eventually found my soulmate Jomel, and we got married 5 months after we met on E-Harmony…

…he is also an adventurer, and a fire knife dancer (very hot!)…

…and we had our son one year later…

…my adventures taught me about love, and money and most of all, humility…

…I learned that I really don’t know what I am doing…

…and it is ok now to admit it and just enjoy the life that I am living…

…everyday is an adventure, everyday is full of love

…what a miraculous life we have…

…when I hold my 2 year old son as he’s sleeping, and go shopping for Christmas gifts for my loving husband with my caring Mom…

…I realize I live in heaven…

…financial freedom is very important, and yet, if I hadn’t learned what a precious thing life is, I would never understand how to teach it or even speak to you…

…my reader…

…you are the only one that really matters in this story…

…are you happy in your life?

…do you understand how precious you really are?

…it doesn’t matter how many mistakes you have made…

…doesn’t matter where you are right now…

…you are important, valuable and loved

…I hope you realize that!

Tell us about your adventures in the comments!

P.S. I blog because I love it…I realize that it isn’t for everyone (Jomel does not like to blog)…

The Romantic Story of Wealth in the Hawaiian Islands – The Bishop Museum

…Mey here after a great morning with my family at the Bishop Museum here in Honolulu Hawaii, blogging about The Romantic Story of Wealth in the Hawaiian Islands – The Bishop Museum…

…I had the privilege to take time out today with my family to learn more about Hawaiian culture at the Bishop Museum today…

…we got to watch a movie about Charles Reed Bishop, and the romantic story of him and Pauahi…

…he started going to her Mission School daily to visit her…

…she was the grand daughter of King Kamehameha, so was a Princess already promised to marry Prince Lott from her childhood…

…she ended up falling in love with Charles, wrote a letter to Prince Lott and her father telling them both that she would not be happy and did not love the Prince…

…the Prince wrote back to her and told her that he did not want her to be unhappy, so released her from her obligation…

…then at age 18 she married the older (by 7 years) Charles with a very small ceremony, where her parents did not attend…

…they ended up buying a house and discussing how to help the Hawaiian people…

…Charles ended up being very trusted by the Hawaiian government and ended up handling a lot of their business, and also ended up opening a bank…

…he was honest and trustworthy and also served on the Board of Education for over 20 years…

…at the young age of 52, Pauahi died and Charles ended up helping fulfill her wishes, by give a lot of her lands to Kamehameha School, Queens Hospital, Kapiolani Women’s and Children’s Hospital, St Andrew’s Priory school for girls, Mid Pacific school…

…he funded the building of Kamehameha schools, and everything that he did, he made sure that all the credit went to his late wife, Bernice Pauahi Bishop, who had inherited all of those lands…

…he ended up selling his bank, moving to San Francisco, and used the money to build the Bishop Museum, where he wanted to preserve all of the cultural artifacts that his wife had inherited…

…he died at age 93, on June 7, 1915…

…his remains were brought back to Hawaii…

…trustworthy, outward focused, and always in his integrity, Charles Bishop was a man who gave so much value he ended up with a large amount of wealth, which he used to better Hawaii…

Conclusion

…I was inspired by Mr. Bishop and his love story with Pauahi…

…even more so, their commitment to the Hawaiian people, and the unselfish way that he ended up distributing her inheritance as schools, hospitals and the Bishop Museum…

…it demonstrates how giving value and working diligently to change things so that the community is stronger, healthier and more empowered…

…gives great wealth, and an amazing legacy…

…what do you think of Mr. and Mrs. Bishop and their story?

…in the beginning their love was shunned by all including their parents…

…they lived a life the commanded respect…

…would you have donated all of that land?

…would you have created a museum to preserve Hawaiian culture?

…tell me your thoughts of their story in the comments below!

3 Tragic True Stories About Money Gained and Lost – And How You Can Learn From Them

…Mey here on a humid Halloween evening blogging about 3 Tragic Stories About Money Gained and Lost – And How You Can Learn From Them

…we learn a lot from stories, some would argue that it is the only way we really learn anything…

…well, if you can learn from these 3 tragic stories then it will have been worth my effort in telling them to you…

…all the stories written below are true, however, the names have been changed to mask their identities…

…on this night, we bring up the dead to allow the living to learn how to be better with their money…

The Gambling Housewife

…this story probably gives the story away…

…it starts with a housewife who was bored because her children didn’t need her anymore…

…so she went to the casino, and had a good time…

…she started out on a strict budget, and only went once a week…

…eventually, it turned into a habit, and she ended up getting $20,000 in debt…

…their family had to declare bankruptcy…

…and they moved to a state where gambling was illegal…

…however, the story doesn’t end there…

…she ended up inheriting over a million dollars from her parents…

…and bought two houses, one for a relative and one for her family…

…two years later they were in their home town and she visited her old Casino…

…and even though she had declared bankruptcy earlier…

…that Casino tracked her down, and offered to fly her free of charge to casinos that were out of state…

…so she started gambling again…

…long story short, she ended up gambling away all of her money and her house…

…she took the case to the Supreme Court, and lost…

…the moral of this tragic story, BE VERY CAREFUL OF THE MONEY HABITS THAT YOU MAKE…

The Young Man’s Inheritance

…this was a young man that I actually knew…

…one day he told me the story of his grandparent leaving him $500,000.00…

…and how his parents didn’t want him to have it…

…because they were afraid he would waste it…

…and he used it to buy some cars, and to live a a farm where they grow their own food…

…and in about 5 years, he had spent it all…

…he then could not make payments on the car, so he sold it for parts instead of let the dealer take it back…

…the moral of this tragic story – YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE MINDSET OF A WEALTHY PERSON TO BE WEALTHY…

The Homeless Man Gets A Gift

…I watched a documentary about a homeless man who was given a large sum of money…

…they wanted to see what he would do with it…

…though he was taken to meetings with financial advisors…

…he did not head their advice…

…instead, he bought a pick up truck, and gas for it, and rented a place to stay…

…eventually, he ran out of money…

Moral of the Story – GIVE YOUR MONEY UNWISELY AND IT WILL BE SPENT UNWISELY…

Conclusion

…what do you think of these stories?

…do you have a story to share?

…these stories are truly tragic because they involved large sums of money and it was transferred to others who could not handle the money, and so it left them…

…you might have a different moral, please let us know in the comments below!

…please share this post with your friends and family, and those who you think would benefit from it…

Water “Wai” and Wealth “Wai Wai” – What is Wealth?

…Mey here writing a blog inspired from our family visit to Dole Plantation yesterday on Water “Wai” and Wealth “Wai Wai” – What is Wealth?

…we were touring the beautiful gardens and learned that the Hawaiian word for fresh water is “wai” and the word for wealth is “wai wai”

…fresh water means a lot to Hawaiians because if you found a source, then you could live…

…you could grow plants, drink water, etc…

…when I think about becoming financially free, I sometimes think that I want to become wealthy…

…the thing is I already am wealthy…

…afterall, I do have fresh water to drink yes?

…water is so important and I take it for granted a lot…

…I’m not saying not to have the finer things in life, however, this is a way was a great reminder to be grateful for all that we have…

…because fresh water is so important for all life!

…what is wealth to you?

…is it the air that we breath?

…is it your family?

Story Time – The Power of This Moment

…Mey here early on Wednesday sharing with you Story Time – The Power of This Moment

…I watched our Agape Sunday Service last night, my online church community with Micheal Beckwith…

…and he shared with us a powerful story about The Power of This Moment…

…so there was a lady who wrote a list of everything she needed…

…she wrote down that next month she was going to need to pay her rent, pay her car payment, buy clothes for her kids, put food in her fridge…

…she put the list in a drawer, closed the drawer and started to pray…

…then she heard a voice that asked “What do you need?”…

…and she opened the drawer, pulled out her list, and read “I need to pay the rent, pay my car payment, buy clothes for my kids, put food in the fridge by next month”…

…and the voice asked again “What do you need?”…

…and she read the list again, she thought maybe she forgot something, “I need to pay the rent, pay my car payment, buy clothes for my kids, put food in the fridge by next month”…

…and the voice asked again “What do you need now?”…

…and she said “now? you mean now now?  Oh, now I’m GOOD”…

…so the point of the story is that in this moment we already have everything that we need…

…and if we expand that knowing, into our eternal Now which is the only moment that we ever have…

…then we will relax in the knowing that we already have everything we need…

…and manifest the abundance that is already in our hearts…

…our hearts that have more neurons than our brains…

…so enjoy the power of this moment…

…and thank you for joining me for story time…

The Day My Networth Got In The Black!!!

…there was a pivotal moment in my life in terms of my financial freedom and wealth…

…and that was the day that my networth got in the black…

…meaning that I finally owned and had more money and assets than I owed…

…this is my story…

…before this day, I was in a time of my life where I was spiraling into debt faster than I was saving money…

…it was my first foray with using debt to pay legal fees…

…and then to pay for courses in internet marketing and personal development…

…I seriously paid for courses until my card was declined…

…the lowest my networth got was -$34,000 in the red…

…It was pulling me down spiritually, mentally and socially…

…I knew I had to find a way out and then I met a friend who made a pact with me…

…he wanted to do an Ironman and I wanted to be financially free..

…I had done the Ironman, he was one year older and financially free…

…we got busy and I got hussling…

…my friend taught me how to call my credit card companies and negotiate a better rate…

…he taught me how to keep asking up the ladder until at one company I actually wrote a letter and faxed it to the President…

…that letter saved me thousands of dollars…

…I borrowed from my 401K and paid off loans and kept reducing debt and continued to save…

…luckily the market was low and on the rise…

…and a lot of other factors, such as getting married and now having joint money as well…

…then the final day, July 31 2012, I succeeded in getting my networth to about $60.00 in the black!

…now my networth is almost $100,000 and climbing…

…by the time you read this I will probably be a millionaire…

…and I enjoy looking and tracking my networth…

…I enjoy finding ways to increase it and create more and more wealth in my life…

…I feel lighter and happier about my money, and I also feel like I’m growing everyday in my capacity to handle wealth…

…I hope you enjoyed my story about the day my networth got in the black…

…it was inspired by a periscope I did about the Financial Freedom checklist where one of the participants asked me if they could improve their Networth if it is negative…(follow me at @meyduldulao)…

…yes, it doesn’t matter if you are in the red or in the black, you can always improve your Networth…

…track it and it will grow…
