How Do I Help My Friend Save More Than $5,000?

…Mey here on a beautiful Wednesday morning and I admit that it was hard to wake up this morning so to help me out my son cried real loud for mango juice and I got up to take him out to Grandma, and so blessed me with the time I need to write about How Do I Help My Friend To Save More Than $5,000?

…so, I have a friend and I talked to her the other day about her saving…

…she used to not save at all…

…only paid debt which she kept accumulating…

…so she finally started saving, YAY!

…however, when I spoke with her she said she stopped saving when she hit $5,000…

…basically, life happened…

…so, being the person that I am I want to help her become financially free…

…so, the big question is, how do I get my friend to save more money and pass her $5,000 mark?

…I decided to text her last night…

“Why stop at $5,000?  What’s so special about that number?”

…she replied “I don’t know =)”…

Reasons people don’t save

…sometimes, people don’t realize that there is a reason they don’t save…

…they think it’s “life” and it’s not…

…they are programmed in their head to save to a certain amount so that their wealth will always be the same…

…why?

…it’s because they only think they are worth that much…

…it’s interesting and the best way to see it is to look at their Networth…

…I sometimes hit blocks too, I was negative for the longest time…

…then I finally figured out that I felt loved ones would always take my money so I made myself have none to take…

…funny huh?

…so once I figured out the story, I was able to get my Networth back in the positive…

…then I hit another block, and it hovered at $50,000 for a year…

…then I realized that I had hit a block with success, didn’t think my business was going to succeed so sabotaging it with overspending…

…got a grip on that, made a budget and started doing regular business meetings with my spouse Jomel, and Networth has been going up ever since…

…the journey brings us our lessons…

…shows us what our assumptions are about our lives, that we haven’t examined since we made them sometimes many years ago…

…it tends to always stay the same unless we root out the cause, and change our habits…

…I’ll have to ask my friend, what is the root cause, the childhood story, the reason you would only save to $5,000 and stop there?

…or maybe we have to do more empowering questions…

How To Breakthrough Savings Blocks and Become Financially Free

…really, it just comes down to a realization…

…the only way to become financially free is to do the work (saving and wise investing)…

…so if I get stuck I know I’m stuck…why?

…because I check my Networth, passive income and expenses on a weekly if not daily basis…

…you need something or someone to tell you when you are stuck…

…most people like my friend don’t even realize that they’ve hit a block and need to get past it…

…if you don’t check your progress regularly, go ahead and follow the Weekly Financial Freedom Checklist, also live on my Periscope Channel every week usually on Fridays…

…when you get to a block (and you probably will, the road is scenic, and has all kinds of bumps, turns, etc to make it more fun and challenging) it’s a great time to stop and ask yourself some questions…

…how do I make it past this block and continue on my journey?

…what do I need to release or let go of to move forward?

…how can I continue on my journey to financial freedom?

…when we stop and ask ourselves, the answer usually presents itself to us…

…our inner wisdom will tell us what we need to know…

…when I realized that I didn’t take my business seriously, and thought that I would never succeed so I was sabotaging it…

…that was a real eye opener for me…

…and now the business is finally pulling itself out of the red, into the black…

…just like my personal finances did…

Conclusion

…my friend taught me a great lesson…

…she showed me that the road is full of scenic spots…

…maybe she pulled over so she could get a scenic view, and didn’t realize that she had stopped her savings…

…I hope she finds what she needs to start saving again…

…I hope you also found value in this post…

How Free Are You – Find Your Financial Freedom Score

…this is Mey here on a rainy and peaceful Monday morning, what a beautiful day to start a magnificent week, blogging about How Free Are You – Find Your Financial Freedom Score

…so, some would say that you are or you aren’t financially free…

…like turning on and off a switch…

…and this is true, because if you are financially free, you don’t need to work anymore…

…however, there is also another way to determine how free you are, and that is your Financial Freedom Score…

…it’s a way to measure progress…

…and there are 2 scores you can calculate…

…one measures your time freedom…

…the other measures your money freedom…

…go ahead and find out your scores below…

Financial Freedom Score – TIME

…take the number of hours that you have in a week, or a month, depending on your work cycle…

…in a week there are 7 days x 24 hours, so the total hours in a week are 168…

…so how many hours do you have to work in that week for money?

…let’s say it’s 45…

…how many hours do you have to prepare and commute to work?

…let’s say another 5…

…now take your total hours of 168 and subtract the 50 hours of work = 118 freedom hours…

…that means that your financial freedom score is 118 hours / 168 hours = 70%

…if you have a TIME score of 70% ask yourself what are you doing with that 70%?

…the more you use it wisely, the more likely more time freedom will be afforded to you…

Financial Freedom Score – MONEY

…take the amount of money that you currently spend per month, say $2,000.00…

…now take your passive income (money you make without spending time like dividends, interest…), say it’s $180 per month…

…now take your passive income $180 / total expenses $2,000.00 = 9%

…some people speed up their freedom by moving to a country where their expenses would be lower…

…for instance in Taiwan you could get by with $180/mo for rent and food in a very rural area…

…in which case, your score would change to 100%…

…or you might use the score to make a business decision…

…if I make this decision, will it help or hurt my financial freedom score?

Conclusion

…you have two scores on how free you really are, based on time and based on money…

…the good part is that most of us are already more free than we may imagine in terms of time freedom…

…it’s important to use our free time well, in order to bring more time for us to use…

…in terms of the money score, unfortunately most people are at 0-1%, and very few even get as high as this example of 9%…

…in order to be 100% free, we need to focus on building our passive income, and reducing our expenses…

…I love blogging about financial freedom, and helping others attain their dream of becoming financially free…

…that’s the power of blogging…

…not only that, I make money doing what I love to do!

Faith and Doubt – How Do They Make You Financially Free

This is Mey here on a beautiful Wednesday morning, and I’m happy for this new day, blogging about Faith and Doubt – How Do They Make You Financially Free

…it may seem funny, aren’t faith and doubt opposites?

…well, not really according to A Spiritual Renegade’s Guide to the Good Life DOUBT IS REQUIRED TO CREATE FAITH

My Story About Doubt Leading to Faith

…for example, I’m in an internet business, which is this blog, and my other blog and my loyal customers…

…and when I initially saw this business opportunity I had a lot of doubt…

…how could I just write about what I love and talk to people about the meaning of life, financial freedom, true love, health, and so on…

…how could doing what I love make me money?

…I didn’t get it, and when I  saw this business opportunity I thought to myself, is this really going to work for me?

…well, I had been referred to this business opportunity through word of mouth…

…however I still had doubt!

…so I went to the Better Business Bureau, looked up the company, and read every negative complaint that they had received…

…and I read how each one had been resolved…

…I looked for reviews of the company on the internet and I found a lot of people promoting it and only one negative review, which was not really negative, it was just saying setting up your own blog is more profitable…

…so after a lot of healthy doubt, which led me to question the business opportunity, and then have me go and examine if it was real or not, I found myself starting to have faith

…and then I decided to go ahead and start a blog with this business

…and since then, as I am making money and giving value at the same time, I have a strong faith that this is the business for me…

How To Use Faith and Doubt To Become Financially Free

…so, the point of the story is that you need to have doubt

learn about people who are financially free, their story, their business and investments…

…then as you read about or meet more and more financially free people…

…you will begin to have faith in yourself, that you too will become financially free

…you need to investigate investments, banks, business opportunities before you put your money in…

…your money is hard earned, and you deserved to make it…

…if it took you years to make it, you want to be very sure you are putting it in a good place…

you need to determine if the investment is real

…is it rated by a credible agency?

…can you see the prospectus?

you need to determine if the investment is right for you...

…it may be real, however, maybe you don’t want to invest in a tobacco company, or maybe you don’t want to sell vitamins, or maybe it’s just not right for you…

…what are the risks?

…maybe the investment is too risky for your personality…

…maybe the return is too low…

…you need to take your wealth seriously…

…this kind of doubt, with push you forward to investigate new and better opportunities, and give you the faith that you’ve found the right ones…

…then you take the actions you need to take to become financially free

…it’s that simple…

…thanks for reading my blog and tell me your thoughts in the comments below!

What Are My Chances of Becoming Financially Free?

…hi, I’m Mey, a Super Mom, and I woke up early before my husband and son so that I could blog and spend more time in the evenings with both of them, and today’s topic is What Are My Chances of Becoming Financially Free?

…this is an important topic as less than 1% of the world is actually financially free…

…most people have to work for a living or depend on someone else who works for a living…

…and yet, there are people who are free…

…they took the actions and created a life where they work on their passions, and don’t need to work for the money anymore…

…so if you want to be financially free, what are your chances of getting your goal?

How Badly Do You Want to Be Financially Free?

…your chances are really the result of your desire to be financially free…

…how bad do you want it?

…if you enjoy your job and your current lifestyle and financial freedom is just a whim…

…then your chances are low…

…if you have a strong desire to stop going to a job and spending more time with your son or your daughter or your husband or your wife…

…if you have a strong desire to work on your own projects, be your own person, feed the children of the world, create better irrigation or sewer systems, conserve natural resources like our forests…

…if you have a BURNING DESIRE SO STRONG THAT IT MAKES YOU LEARN, PLAN, AND ACT ON YOU DESIRE…

…then, the chances of you becoming Financially Free are 100%

What?  100%?  How Can My Chances Be 100%?

…I once read a great e-mail by a friend and mentor Keala who wrote that the chances I would succeed in my internet business were 100%…

…why?

…well, let’s say you want to have a black belt in Karate…

…and you go to practice, do what the teacher says, follow the work outs, learn the lessons and practice…

…then the chances of you becoming a black belt are 100%…

…it’s the same with anything, and Financial Freedom…

…I put together a Financial Freedom Checklist, that if you follow it, and do the steps, and they don’t take that long…

…then your chances of becoming financially free are also 100%…

…all you have to do is follow the steps and do the work!

What do you think are your chances of becoming financially free?

What steps are you going to take to get there?

If you are already financially free, what steps did you take to get there?

Your Financial Freedom Goal – Stay On Track With This Weekly Checklist

…hi, it’s Mey here and I went on an amazing 25 mile bike ride this morning out to Hawaii Kai with my bike team, had a nice breakfast and am now blogging about the key of my whole blog and mission – Your Financial Freedom Goal – Stay On Track With This Weekly Checklist

…Do you want to be financially free?

…if you are financially free, do you want more of your friends and family to also be financially free?

…have you wanted some guidance or support to keep you on track with your goal?

…to get you financially free faster?

…then this weekly checklist is going to be the keystone to your goal for financial freedom (or for the friends that you want to become financially free)…

Why Use a Checklist?

…I blogged already on the power of checklists, they save lives in hospitals, improve efficiency and do so many things that to make everything run better and making our lives better…

…so it’s important to use a checklist in your Financial Freedom goal…

…so step one BOOKMARK this page and check on it every week…

Do I Have To Do The Financial Freedom Checklist Weekly?

…YES…

…you might think that doing it once is enough, however, it is KEY AND CRUCIAL THAT YOU FOLLOW THE CHECKLIST EVERY WEEK..

…the reason is that the actions you need to take to become financially free must be done habitually on a regular basis, just like exercising and eating healthy…

…if you don’t pay attention to one part of the checklist and fall off, it will affect your financial freedom goal…

…I know, because I didn’t focus on one part of the checklist, my Networth, and it didn’t improve at all for that year that I didn’t look at it…

…and then I started focusing on it again and my Networth improved and keeps improving…

…so, the moral of the story is that if you are serious about your financial freedom, and what you are doing now is not working, then get serious and follow this checklist weekly…

…the second step is to follow me on Periscope and Twitter @meyduldulao where I go through the checklist every week, usually on Friday though sometimes I do it on Saturday or Sunday like today…

What Is The Financial Freedom Checklist?

1) Did you Save at Least 10% of all the money you earned this week? (after tax earnings)

2) Did you keep your savings safe? (this means, did you keep it in your savings account, you have no idea how many people sabotage themselves by spending their savings)

3) Do you know what your Networth is? (if you need help, you can use free websites like Mint.com to help you calculate it daily)

4) Did your Networth Increase this week?

5) Did your Passive Income Increase this week?  (money that you make without spending time, like interest from a Savings Account or bonds, dividends from stocks, income from a business you own and don’t spend time running, royalties from books…)

6) Did your Expenses stay the same or go down? (many people sabotage their freedom by spending more money when they make more money, such as buying a fancier car, buying a more expensive house…etc)

7) Did you spend time feeling grateful for what you already have?

8) Did you forgive those who hurt you (including yourself)?

9) Did you learn something new this week about financial freedom?

10) Do you have support for your financial freedom goal? (getting Financially Free friends and mentors, reading books about financial freedom and investing, joining masterminds, getting on my e-mail list and reading my daily blog posts and watching my daily scopes…)

Conclusion

…using this financial freedom checklist will keep you on track for really achieving financial freedom and feeling wealthier now…

…I welcome any comments or suggestions on how to improve the checklist as well…

…I was recently thinking of adding “Did you give today?” since giving also creates the circulation of wealth…

…tell me what you think and about your personal journey to financial freedom!

P.S.
