How Much Would You Save in Taxes if You Made Less Money

…the other day I asked my accountant “How Much Would I Save in Taxes if I Made Less Money”?

…specifically, I had her show me the difference in the taxes our family would pay now and if I wasn’t working my job…

…my husband and I both work jobs now…

…and not surprisingly, we would drop a tax bracket, and we would pay $7,000 less in taxes if I hadn’t worked last year…

How Much Money Are You Really Making At A Job?

The reason I asked my accountant this question is because my husband makes a lot more money in his job than I do…

…so, it may be more cost effective if I didn’t work a job and concentrated more on my business, on investing our money for dividends and my family…

…Why would that be the case?

Read on to find out more…

Business Income vs. Employment Income

…so one of my options, instead of working a job, would be to spend more time on my business…

…since our business income increases when we make more sales, we can make more money in our business than in a job…

…for example, in my job, I make $2/sale…

…however, in my business, I can make up to $2,000+ per sale…

…in addition, business income is not taxable in the same way as salary or job income…

…business income is taxed only after business expenses are deducted…

…business expenses include the space where you do business, and if your business is from home, then it would be the portion of your home that is dedicated to your business, your wage from your business…

…it would also include any phone or internet service charges…

For a detailed list of business expense deductions CLICK HERE

…so it’s probably becoming clear that there are tax advantages to making money in a business…

…in addition to these advantages, I enjoy running my business…

…and I enjoy learning internet marketing, blogging and researching financial freedom…

…if you have a talent or interest in a particular niche, you can also start an internet blogging business, with very little upfront cost, CLICK HERE to learn more…

…I know other friends who have businesses, like baking wedding cakes, making leaf pressed stationary, personal training, writing books…

…whatever your business, you can improve it, leverage it, and increase income and make it more successful…

Dividend Income vs. Employment Income

…another option for me, instead of spending time at my job, would be to spend more time researching dividend paying stocks…

…first reason to spend time increasing dividends is because it’s fun, and I really enjoy growing our personal income through investing…

…second reason I like spending time increasing our dividend income: because it’s income that is not dependent on my job, and to me it’s more stable than job income…

…if you do it right…

…also, dividend income may not be taxed the same as employment income, depending on the type of dividend and also on your tax bracket, according to a Wells Fargo article for 2016:

“For tax purposes, dividends are considered either “qualified” or “nonqualified.” Qualified dividends are:

Tax-free for those in the 10% and 15% brackets to the extent qualified dividend income remains within those brackets
Taxed at a 15% rate for those in the 25% up to 35% tax brackets
Taxed at a 20% rate for higher income taxpayers whose income surpasses the 35% tax bracket
Nonqualified dividends are taxed at the same rates as ordinary income (currently a 39.6% maximum).”

So in determining if you should work less, take into account if you are growing your dividend income…

Time With Family vs. Employment Income

Let’s pretend you are on your deathbed, and you are thinking back on the most important moments of your life…

…most people will think back to happy times with their family…

…when their son or daughter first said “Daddy” or “Mommy”…

…or their first softball game…

…or their wedding day…

…these precious moments when we are spending quality time with our parents, siblings, children…

…these are the most cherished moments of our lives…

…and yet many people spend time away from their families doing unmemorable things at their jobs…

…some people don’t even know their own children because they are so caught up in their work life, that they are hardly ever home…

…it may be the case that the money that I’m making at my job is not worth the time away from my family…

…I’ve met plenty of people who couldn’t bear sending their kids to be raised by strangers, and left their jobs to raise their own children…

…some are internet entrepreneurs, some are spouses who have enough money with the other spouse working…

…so another option for me is to quit so that I can spend more time with my son, with my Mom and husband, and building a happy and healthy family…

Conclusion

I believe that anyone can become financially free, and it doesn’t matter what your profession is or your educational background…

…all that matters is that you decide you want it and you follow the steps to attain it (CLICK HERE FOR THE STEPS TO FOLLOW)…

…share this article with a friend and spread financial freedom throughout the world =)

5 Danger Signs That Signal For Help In Your Finances

…Mey here on a breezy Tuesday morning blogging about the 5 Danger Signs That Signal For Help In Your Finances

…so, I used to be in a very dangerous place when it came to my finances…

…and I didn’t realize that I could ask for help…

…so in this post I share with you the 5 Danger Signs and also how you can get the help that you need…

#1 You Have Credit Card Debt

…this is something that most wealthy people that I work with do not have…

…why?

…the interest rate on credit card debt is too high…

…so if you have credit card debt that you carry over month to month, then this is a sign that you need help with your finances…

…here is the help that I got from a friend of mine who was financially free:

1) Stop using your credit cards (cut them up if you have to).

2) Call the Credit Card Companies and ask for a lower rate.  Keep notes, record who you talked to, the date, the time, and what happened.

3) If they don’t give you a lower rate, ask for their supervisor and ask again.  Keep notes.

4) Keep asking until you get to the President of the company, and by then they will usually lower your rate.

5) Pay off the highest interest rate card faster, then move on to the next highest rate.

I used the method above and saved thousands of dollars, just from lowering my rate.

For one of my cards, I went all the way up to the President and faxed him a letter, detailing everyone I had talked to and what I was requesting, and I finally got a rate decrease…

Today, I have no credit card debt.

#2 You Are Not Saving Money

…if you are not saving money for yourself on a regular basis then you are setting yourself up to fail…

…all wealthy people that I know save money, whether it’s in a 401K, IRA or savings and other investments…

…they are saving money on a regular basis…

…if you are not saving money on a regular basis (everytime you get paid), then you need to start…

…open up a savings account today and set it up so that at least 10% of your income gets transferred there…

…if you don’t have enough money to open a savings account then do what I did in the beginning, put $.10 in a jar everyday…

…it’s the habit of saving that’s more important than how much…

…if you are not successful at doing this, then I suggest you get help…

…I recommend getting a financial advisor or financial planner to assist you…

#3 You Complain About Money

…if you are complaining about money then you are hurting your finances…

…what does complaining do?

…wastes your time, other people’s time, and drains your own energy…

…it also makes people who have money stay away from you…

…so opportunities for money don’t come your way…

…if you hear yourself complaining about money all the time, you need help…

…I suggest going to a seminar like the Millionaire Mind Intensive

…or reading books that will give you a wealthy mindset

…or saying money affirmations instead…

#4 You Make Little or No Money

…cashflow is important and if you have no cashflow then you aren’t going to be able to save…

…the most common way to start making money is to get a job…

…or you can start a business and sell something…

…either way, you need to go out there and start making money…

…remember this, the money you make equals the value that you give…

…so if it’s hard now for you to get a job, or sell something…

…that means you need to learn new skills so that you can give others value…

…most people know how to get help finding job counseling…

…or they will go to school or enter a program to learn something that people want…

…well, go out and get help…

#5 You Are Spending More Money Than You Make

…if you have a negative net worth that is becoming more negative every month then you need help…

…what this means is that you are spending more money than you are making…

…so you are getting more and more into debt…

…I used to have this issue and I got help…

…however, like most people, I got help after I couldn’t make my debt payments anymore…

…I got a mentor who taught me how to negotiate my debts so that I was at least paying what I was making, and then moved on from there…

Conclusion

…recognizing these danger signs can save you and put you back on track to being wealthy and financially free…

…most people don’t recognize that they need help!

…they justify their spending, even though it’s obvious to their friends and family that they are in trouble…

…just go through the five and see if that is you…

…then GET HELP!

How to Become Financially Free By Understanding Your Money Personality

…Mey here on a beautiful Monday afternoon masterminding in Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf with my good friend Candice blogging about How to Become Financially Free By Understanding Your Money Personality

…do you know what your money personality is?

…I learned these money personalities from the Peak Potentials Millionaire Mind Intensive seminar…

…now called the Millionaire Mind Experience seminar (as it is owned by a new owner)…

…learning more about how you handle money will help you become financially free faster!

…so, read through them below and find out which one you are…

Spender

…by far the most common personality is oftentimes to spender personality…

…maybe it is because our culture encourages us to spend, spend, spend…

…get a bigger house, or a nicer car, or go on a cooler vacation, or buy the latest fashions…

…we are constantly trained to spend, spend, spend…

…maybe you are spending to get status, to look good, to keep up with the Jones’s…

…maybe you are spending to be a celebrity, or hang out with celebrities and get praise and attention…

…another type of spender is someone who is always paying for their family…

…sending this child to college, and that cousin a birthday gift, and sending money to your brother to bail him out of jail and so on…

…or maybe your spending because you grew up with stingy or poor parents, and were denied nice things as a child, and are spending on yourself…

…if you have this money personality type then you probably buy things on credit a lot, maybe have a lot of debt, also you have  a lot of things that you’ve bought in your home that you never use or touch, or a bunch of family members who always ask you for money…

Spender’s tips to becoming financially free – you have to take care of yourself first, and that doesn’t mean spending all of your money away…

…say to yourself everyday “I deserve to have money”

…because for whatever reason, money leaves you as soon as you get it so you need to keep it For Yourself!

…next, ask yourself “How can I become financially free?  What steps do I need to take to control my spending and start saving?“…

…then you need to save at least 10% of what you make starting with your next paycheck, bonus or income

…doesn’t matter if you have a lot of debt now…

…with your personality if you never see success through savings then  you will always have debt so you need to start saving…

…when you start saving and lowering debt at the same time, then the money you save will eventually be greater than the money you owe…

…you have to save, and pay your debtors after you have saved…

…always pay yourself first in the form of savings…

…next, only spend money that you actually have, so cut up those credit cards and no more borrowing for you…

…it’s ok to spend, just not on anymore credit…

…seriously, open up your wallet and cut up the credit cards now…

…finally, find a friend who can support you

Saver

…the saver is a person who saves all of their money…

…they don’t want to spend it on this or that, and are happy to see the money in their savings grow, just for it’s own sake…

…savers are the second largest segment of the population…

…you know you are a saver if you have a savings account, 401K, or brokerage account that keeps growing in value…

…you get joy out of putting money into your savings and you dislike spending, and avoid it at all costs…

Saver’s tips to becoming financially free

…saving without spending is stifling your financial freedom in that you are not free…

…you may have the finances however you are a slave to your money…

…money is meant to circulate and flow, through wise investments and expenditures…

…to find happiness you need to have a balanced financial life…

…it’s great to save however to become free of your money and enjoy your life more you need to do the following steps:

1) Spend 10% of the money you make on having fun and feeling rich…

2) Give between 5%-10% to charity, preferable anonymously…

3) Spend more time helping others and less time checking your bank balances…

Avoider

…the avoider is someone who avoids anything to do with money…

…they feel that they don’t understand it and thus they don’t even think about it…

…you know that you are an avoider if you throw your bills away without even looking at them…

…or you let your bills pile up and don’t open them…

…you probably have a lot of late fees, and stress around thinking about money…

…perhaps you have designated a spouse or someone else to help handle your money for you…

Avoider’s tips to becoming financially free

…avoiders think that money is complicated when saving is one of the simplest things you could do with your money…

when you get a check have the automatically split it so that 10% gets deposited into a savings account

turn over the management of that savings account to a trusted financial planner

…saving is like exercising a muscle…

…the more you do it the easier it gets…

…and your financial advisor will figure out what to do with the money…

simplify and consolidate debt

reduce your expenses so that you can keep better track of where you are spending your money

be careful of spending money on get rich quick schemes, and MLMs that you aren’t really going to work

…your personality likes to opportunity hop, spending lots of money along the way, looking for the quick way to fix your money problems…

…if you just focus on saving and simplifying and the skills that actually make you money, it will get easier over time…

Money Monk

…if you are a money monk, that means that you think money is unimportant in comparison to your spiritual or idealistic pursuits…

…so you don’t work on earning it and you give it away when you get it quite easily…

…to you, being spiritual means not having money in your life to distract you or make you become sinful…

…you may even think being poor makes you more spiritual…

…or you may be interested in some cause, like world peace, and spend your time focusing on that and not on money…

…in any case, you have bigger goals and want to live a pure life…

…and don’t see how money can be any part of it…

…you know you are a money monk if you have very little money, feel like you are a spiritual person or an idealistic person who doesn’t need money…

…and if you tend to give all of your money away to causes and charities…

Money Monk’s tips to becoming financially free

…being poor is not a spiritual pursuit…

…Mother Therese gets tons of donations to do the good works that she does…

…go to any church and they need your money to function in the form of tithes…

…and if you have a great cause, you know that you need money to fund your projects and you’re probably always looking for or answering to investors and sponsors and donors…

…so being poor is not serving you…

…in fact, aside from the experience of being poor, you should be getting rich as soon as you can if you really want to make a meaningful impact on this planet…

…just understanding this will help you as you are a very smart and savvy type and once you understand this basic concept, you will put value on accumulating money and paying yourself first…

so set up a savings account and start paying yourself first, at least 10% of everything you make

…and let it grow…

…because you are going to get your goals faster and make a bigger difference in this world rich…

Your Financial Freedom Goal – Stay On Track With This Weekly Checklist

…hi, it’s Mey here and I went on an amazing 25 mile bike ride this morning out to Hawaii Kai with my bike team, had a nice breakfast and am now blogging about the key of my whole blog and mission – Your Financial Freedom Goal – Stay On Track With This Weekly Checklist

…Do you want to be financially free?

…if you are financially free, do you want more of your friends and family to also be financially free?

…have you wanted some guidance or support to keep you on track with your goal?

…to get you financially free faster?

…then this weekly checklist is going to be the keystone to your goal for financial freedom (or for the friends that you want to become financially free)…

Why Use a Checklist?

…I blogged already on the power of checklists, they save lives in hospitals, improve efficiency and do so many things that to make everything run better and making our lives better…

…so it’s important to use a checklist in your Financial Freedom goal…

…so step one BOOKMARK this page and check on it every week…

Do I Have To Do The Financial Freedom Checklist Weekly?

…YES…

…you might think that doing it once is enough, however, it is KEY AND CRUCIAL THAT YOU FOLLOW THE CHECKLIST EVERY WEEK..

…the reason is that the actions you need to take to become financially free must be done habitually on a regular basis, just like exercising and eating healthy…

…if you don’t pay attention to one part of the checklist and fall off, it will affect your financial freedom goal…

…I know, because I didn’t focus on one part of the checklist, my Networth, and it didn’t improve at all for that year that I didn’t look at it…

…and then I started focusing on it again and my Networth improved and keeps improving…

…so, the moral of the story is that if you are serious about your financial freedom, and what you are doing now is not working, then get serious and follow this checklist weekly…

…the second step is to follow me on Periscope and Twitter @meyduldulao where I go through the checklist every week, usually on Friday though sometimes I do it on Saturday or Sunday like today…

What Is The Financial Freedom Checklist?

1) Did you Save at Least 10% of all the money you earned this week? (after tax earnings)

2) Did you keep your savings safe? (this means, did you keep it in your savings account, you have no idea how many people sabotage themselves by spending their savings)

3) Do you know what your Networth is? (if you need help, you can use free websites like Mint.com to help you calculate it daily)

4) Did your Networth Increase this week?

5) Did your Passive Income Increase this week?  (money that you make without spending time, like interest from a Savings Account or bonds, dividends from stocks, income from a business you own and don’t spend time running, royalties from books…)

6) Did your Expenses stay the same or go down? (many people sabotage their freedom by spending more money when they make more money, such as buying a fancier car, buying a more expensive house…etc)

7) Did you spend time feeling grateful for what you already have?

8) Did you forgive those who hurt you (including yourself)?

9) Did you learn something new this week about financial freedom?

10) Do you have support for your financial freedom goal? (getting Financially Free friends and mentors, reading books about financial freedom and investing, joining masterminds, getting on my e-mail list and reading my daily blog posts and watching my daily scopes…)

Conclusion

…using this financial freedom checklist will keep you on track for really achieving financial freedom and feeling wealthier now…

…I welcome any comments or suggestions on how to improve the checklist as well…

…I was recently thinking of adding “Did you give today?” since giving also creates the circulation of wealth…

…tell me what you think and about your personal journey to financial freedom!

P.S.

…I blog about financial freedom because I LOVE IT…

…it would make me so happy to see the readers of this blog become financially free faster and live their most empowered lives…
