You Must Be Rich To Be Happy

…Mey here blogging on a fantastic Tuesday evening, did a handstand today and it felt GREAT, blogging about You Must Be Rich To Be Happy

…does that shock you?

…you must be rich to be happy?

…what if I told you that it will all make sense with a math equation?

The Story – The Extremely Wealthy Gas Station Attendant

…this story is taken from Way of the Peaceful Warrior: A Book That Changes Lives by Dan Millman…

…a young man named Dan had a teacher who he called Socrates…

…Socrates was very wise, and was also a gas station attendant…

…so one day Dan and Socrates were attending to a limo…

…and after, Dan said, “Do you think rich folks like that are happier than poor stiffs like us?”…

…then Socrates replied “I’m extremely rich Dan.  In fact, you have to be rich to be happy.”

…then he drew the following math equation:

SATISFACTION
HAPPINESS = —————————

DESIRES

…and he told Dan that happiness is when you can satisfy your desires…

…and so if you have very large desires you need to do more to satisfy them…

…or you can have very few desires and it’s very easy to satisfy them…

…so if you can be happier with less, then you are extremely wealthy…

Conclusion

…do you think you have to be rich to be happy now?

…rich in that everything you desire is satisfied!

…let me know what you think in the comments below!

The Romantic Story of Wealth in the Hawaiian Islands – The Bishop Museum

…Mey here after a great morning with my family at the Bishop Museum here in Honolulu Hawaii, blogging about The Romantic Story of Wealth in the Hawaiian Islands – The Bishop Museum…

…I had the privilege to take time out today with my family to learn more about Hawaiian culture at the Bishop Museum today…

…we got to watch a movie about Charles Reed Bishop, and the romantic story of him and Pauahi…

…he started going to her Mission School daily to visit her…

…she was the grand daughter of King Kamehameha, so was a Princess already promised to marry Prince Lott from her childhood…

…she ended up falling in love with Charles, wrote a letter to Prince Lott and her father telling them both that she would not be happy and did not love the Prince…

…the Prince wrote back to her and told her that he did not want her to be unhappy, so released her from her obligation…

…then at age 18 she married the older (by 7 years) Charles with a very small ceremony, where her parents did not attend…

…they ended up buying a house and discussing how to help the Hawaiian people…

…Charles ended up being very trusted by the Hawaiian government and ended up handling a lot of their business, and also ended up opening a bank…

…he was honest and trustworthy and also served on the Board of Education for over 20 years…

…at the young age of 52, Pauahi died and Charles ended up helping fulfill her wishes, by give a lot of her lands to Kamehameha School, Queens Hospital, Kapiolani Women’s and Children’s Hospital, St Andrew’s Priory school for girls, Mid Pacific school…

…he funded the building of Kamehameha schools, and everything that he did, he made sure that all the credit went to his late wife, Bernice Pauahi Bishop, who had inherited all of those lands…

…he ended up selling his bank, moving to San Francisco, and used the money to build the Bishop Museum, where he wanted to preserve all of the cultural artifacts that his wife had inherited…

…he died at age 93, on June 7, 1915…

…his remains were brought back to Hawaii…

…trustworthy, outward focused, and always in his integrity, Charles Bishop was a man who gave so much value he ended up with a large amount of wealth, which he used to better Hawaii…

Conclusion

…I was inspired by Mr. Bishop and his love story with Pauahi…

…even more so, their commitment to the Hawaiian people, and the unselfish way that he ended up distributing her inheritance as schools, hospitals and the Bishop Museum…

…it demonstrates how giving value and working diligently to change things so that the community is stronger, healthier and more empowered…

…gives great wealth, and an amazing legacy…

…what do you think of Mr. and Mrs. Bishop and their story?

…in the beginning their love was shunned by all including their parents…

…they lived a life the commanded respect…

…would you have donated all of that land?

…would you have created a museum to preserve Hawaiian culture?

…tell me your thoughts of their story in the comments below!

There Are No Ordinary Moments, Satori and Finding Financial Freedom

…Mey here on a rainy and peaceful Tuesday evening, the in-laws are visiting from the Philippines and they are in the living room with my husband and Jordan watching Star Trek, and I’m blogging about the important topic There Are No Ordinary Moments, Satori and Finding Financial Freedom

…I have been reading the book Way of the Peaceful Warrior: A Book That Changes Lives by Dan Millman, and reading this book will change your life…

…in it there is a part where the main character Dan is told by his teacher to sit on a stone in the back yard until he can think of something inspiring and enlightening to say…

…so Dan is stuck on this rock, sore and hungry for over 24 hours…

…he misses his classes and his gymnastics practice….

…thinking and thinking…

…finally he comes up with the enlightening thought…

There Are No Ordinary Moments

…so, there are no ordinary moments

…what does this mean?

…it means that the present…NOW…is always special, a miracle, an amazing and fantastic time to be alive…

…this moment and EVERY MOMENT is special…

…even when you think what you are doing doesn’t matter, like when I walk up the stairwell between floors in my bank…

…even that moment has meaning…

…you, here, reading this blog, is a special moment…

…understanding this is one of the keys to finding financial freedom…

…because I know a lot of people with a lot of money who are not free…

…freedom lies in your mindset…

…want to be financially free?

…well, there are no ordinary moments…

…enjoy the time you are living NOW…

Satori

…in the book, Dan’s teacher explains Satori by throwing a sharp dagger straight at his chest…

…Dan dodges and is scared and surprised…

…Dan’s teacher tells him that his focus and complete attention to that moment is Satori

…and it is important for us to be in a state of Satori, being fully awake and alive, at all times in our lives…

…you want to be financially free?

…do you appreciate the freedom that you already have right now?

…do you live fully alive?

Finding Financial Freedom

…becoming financially free is not something that difficult to do…

…you just have to save money, invest it wisely and live off of the dividends, interest, etc…

…most of the work can be done in less than an hour or two a month…

…the rest of the time you need to leave your money where it is (most people just find ways to spend it and that’s the only reason they aren’t free yet) and just enjoy your current life, free time, and not so free time…

…practicing how to be free in the mind…

…which you can do right now…

…I would start by reading the book that inspired this post…

Conclusion

…I love writing about Financial Freedom…

…I love sharing the knowledge that I have gathered, and helping others achieve their financial freedom…

…it’s a dream…

…are you living your dream?

…is there something that you love to share with the world too?

…something that the world needs?

…then go ahead and start blogging, and make money doing it…

The Biggest Challenge to Your Dreams Revealed

…Mey blogging on Sunday night with only 20 minutes left to write my daily blog, topic is The Biggest Challenge to Your Dreams Revealed

…I will start with a personal story, of how I’ve been blogging and not successful for a while…

…well, I committed to doing a 365 day blogging challenge…

…and today was the hardest day so far for me to fulfill my commitment…

…everyone in my house is sick in one way or another and I have to do everything, the cooking, cleaning, taking care of Jordan and so on…

…and it’s hostile in my house today, due to unforseen reasons that I can’t do anything about…

…and yet here I am fulfilling my daily blogging challenge…

…why?

…because I made the commitment and I don’t back down or give up once I’m committed…

…so here is the reason I shared my story…

…so the biggest challenges of of you obtaining your dreams is that you have not committed…

…once you draw the line in the sand…

…and make the commitment…

…nothing can stop you…

…not sickness, not hostile people, not weather…

…nothing will stop you…

…so I tell you…

…have you committed to your dreams…

…cause once you commit, the challenges will get bigger and yet you will be strong enough to face them…

…so what are your dreams my friend?

…commit to them and let us know in the comments what your commitment is…

Financial Freedom Myths and Legends

Mey here on a cool Thursday morning bringing to you Financial freedom myths and legends…

…I think I’m still waking up and I have the entire Universe of stories still alive in my head…

…I even did my kungfu warmup this morning, which I haven’t done in years…

…so sit back and enjoy…

The Legend of Midas

…I’m sure you’ve heard of Midas…

…the man who wanted to be wealthy so much that he wanted everything he touched to turn to gold…

…and it finally happened that one day he really could touch everything and it would turn into gold…

…and yet the day that he touched his daughter and she turned to gold was the most tragic day of his life…

…a gold statue of his daughter could not replace her warmth, love and life…

…and he realized that his obsession with gold had cost him the one thing he loved most…

…and so it was the lesson learned that obsession and the love of money to the exclusion of all else brings tragedy…

…remembering why we are alive, what we truly value and actually doing what we love is true wealth…a

The Man With No Clothes

…there was a man who wanted to have the best and nicest clothes for a parade through town…

…he had many tailors come and did not like anything that they brought him until one special tailor arrived and dressed him in the most magnificent imaginary clothes…

…here is the shirt your majesty, woven out of fine silk and gold…

…and the pants were imported from India and blessed in a temple there for all of the Gods to witness…

…and on and on the flourishment about the imaginary clothes…

…the emperor was so impressed by the words of the tailor and the origin of each piece that he gladly wore them, to the approval of his court, and went out in the parade wearing his imaginary clothes…

…everyone cheered the king for fear if they didn’t they would be hanged…

…everyone except one little boy who said “Why is the emperor wearing no clothes?”…

…in the mind we can fashion stories of how we want reality to be…

…however the truth is the only thing that can set you free from delusions and fantasies…

…and no matter how hard you craft your dream world, the truth can be found easily through the pure and innocent eyes of a child…

Conclusion

How Much of the Education of Children Is Our Responsibility?

…Mey here doing a quickie blog on How Much of Children’s Education Is Our Responsibility?

…this was inspired by what I heard from a student teacher…

…that the teacher she is observing teaches remedial math…

…and she calls the students names…

…these students are not by children and yet, I feel I’m responsible for them, and all of the education for all children…

…and the basis of that education needs to be founded on love…

…I don’t think most people would do anything about this after hearing it…

…what would you do?

…the truth is that financial freedom gives you the ability to work towards a better society…

…have the time and resources to improve public education makes the entire world a better place to live in…

…because the children of the world are our children…

I blog about financial freedom because I love it, what would you blog about?

What is Retirement and Do You Want It?

…Mey here blogging quickly on a Saturday evening as my husband takes our son to the store to satisfy his craving for an egg salad sandwich on the topic – What is Retirement and Do You Want It?

…it’s an interesting question and today I was at the funeral of a dear friend who only retired in June 2013 and has passed away at 67, didn’t even collect her social security yet…

…she had plans to travel the world…

…and it struck me to write this very important post…

…because a lot of people work so hard so that they can retire…

…most never do, and working as greeters in Walmart (as my mentor Tracy Walker pointed out)…

…I ask you, if we are to live our fullest life, then why would we ever retire?

…and why would we work a job that we don’t enjoy in the first place?

…I’ve read the biographies of actors, a gas station attendant, and I personally know bloggers, doctors, teachers, and others who love what they do so much that they are going to do it until they die…

…unless they decide to do something else they love more…

…because life is about action, and being alive here and now…

…it’s not about putting in enough time to stop doing something…

…what about you?

…do you dream about your retirement?

…do you worry about whether you will be able to retire?

…maybe it’s time to choose a better path…

…and do something that you can continue to do for the rest of your life with joy and happiness…

…maybe it’s time for you to start doing what I do, and blog about your passions, and make money through the new internet economy that does not discriminate based on your age, or your talents…

…maybe it’s time for you

…leave me a comment below on what you think of retirement…

Why Is Financial Abundance Everywhere?

…Mey here on a breezy and starry Wednesday evening, while my husband and son are out enjoying the night air together, blogging about Why Is Financial Abundance Everywhere?

…what is your reaction to that question?

…are you thinking that it isn’t everywhere in your life?

…or are you thinking of all the abundance in your life that you didn’t really notice before?

…I pose this question on purpose because it is truly how I feel, and it triggers in the brain that we need to pay attention because financial abundance is everywhere!

…think about it, I have this amazing computer with a wireless mouse and keyboard that I’m blogging on daily to help people all over the world become financially free…

…it’s the most amazing experience and it’s possible because of how rich, prosperous and wealth we all are living in the US, or UK, or Taiwan, or wherever it is that you live…

…you are reading this right now which means you are just swimming in a boundless sea of financial wealth and abundance…

The Signs That Financial Abundance is Everywhere

1) Virtually everyone has a cell phone these days and use it to connect with their relatives, friends and others all around the world…

2) We have doctors and health care providers, acupuncturists, physical therapists, healers…all sorts of ways to become and maintain our health…

3) We have music in our radios and in our phones and to me, music is like the ultimate leisure and enjoyment activity…

4) We have more than enough food to eat, with plenty of healthy options, and plenty of places to get it…

5) We have clean water to drink and bathe and wash…

6) We have children who now usually live past without any health issues, who have plenty of health care and wonderful vaccinations…

7) We can fly to places that used to take years to reach by foot and boat…

8) We have these amazing cars, vans, SUVs, you name it, that we can use to take ourselves over great distances quickly…

9) We have instant access to movies, shows, and all kinds of entertainment through our computers, internet…

10) We have time for hobbies and sports, like surfing, swimming, jogging, sewing, basket weaving, antique collecting…

…I could go on and on…

Why Is Financial Abundance Everywhere?

…what an awesome question isn’t it?

…here are my answers…

…financial abundance is everywhere because the world is full of loving parents who will do anything to make their children safe, happy and healthy…

…so generations upon generations of these loving parents have created hospitals, medicine, clean water and irrigation systems…

…these parents dedicated their lives to making the world a better place for us all…

3 Tragic True Stories About Money Gained and Lost – And How You Can Learn From Them

…Mey here on a humid Halloween evening blogging about 3 Tragic Stories About Money Gained and Lost – And How You Can Learn From Them

…we learn a lot from stories, some would argue that it is the only way we really learn anything…

…well, if you can learn from these 3 tragic stories then it will have been worth my effort in telling them to you…

…all the stories written below are true, however, the names have been changed to mask their identities…

…on this night, we bring up the dead to allow the living to learn how to be better with their money…

The Gambling Housewife

…this story probably gives the story away…

…it starts with a housewife who was bored because her children didn’t need her anymore…

…so she went to the casino, and had a good time…

…she started out on a strict budget, and only went once a week…

…eventually, it turned into a habit, and she ended up getting $20,000 in debt…

…their family had to declare bankruptcy…

…and they moved to a state where gambling was illegal…

…however, the story doesn’t end there…

…she ended up inheriting over a million dollars from her parents…

…and bought two houses, one for a relative and one for her family…

…two years later they were in their home town and she visited her old Casino…

…and even though she had declared bankruptcy earlier…

…that Casino tracked her down, and offered to fly her free of charge to casinos that were out of state…

…so she started gambling again…

…long story short, she ended up gambling away all of her money and her house…

…she took the case to the Supreme Court, and lost…

…the moral of this tragic story, BE VERY CAREFUL OF THE MONEY HABITS THAT YOU MAKE…

The Young Man’s Inheritance

…this was a young man that I actually knew…

…one day he told me the story of his grandparent leaving him $500,000.00…

…and how his parents didn’t want him to have it…

…because they were afraid he would waste it…

…and he used it to buy some cars, and to live a a farm where they grow their own food…

…and in about 5 years, he had spent it all…

…he then could not make payments on the car, so he sold it for parts instead of let the dealer take it back…

…the moral of this tragic story – YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE MINDSET OF A WEALTHY PERSON TO BE WEALTHY…

The Homeless Man Gets A Gift

…I watched a documentary about a homeless man who was given a large sum of money…

…they wanted to see what he would do with it…

…though he was taken to meetings with financial advisors…

…he did not head their advice…

…instead, he bought a pick up truck, and gas for it, and rented a place to stay…

…eventually, he ran out of money…

Moral of the Story – GIVE YOUR MONEY UNWISELY AND IT WILL BE SPENT UNWISELY…

Conclusion

…what do you think of these stories?

…do you have a story to share?

…these stories are truly tragic because they involved large sums of money and it was transferred to others who could not handle the money, and so it left them…

…you might have a different moral, please let us know in the comments below!

…please share this post with your friends and family, and those who you think would benefit from it…

P.S.

…I used to have penpals and I used to write a P.S. on all of the letters I wrote…

…I though I’d throw one in now…

…I love writing about Financial Freedom and helping others learn how to become financially free themselves…

3 Books That Changed My Life Instantly

…Mey here on a Thursday morning, winter is coming, it is dark and cooler outside, grateful for my son and husband and my mom and our beautiful home here in Honolulu HI, blogging about 3 Books That Changed My Life Instantly

…ever read a book and then INSTANTLY, your life changed for the better?

…you had an AH HAH moment and then BOOM, instantly you were a better person?

…sometimes a book can change you slowly, sometimes it has an impact years later, however, these 3 books changed my life the second I read the life changing words that were found in them

…the first helped me lose 3 pounds easily in 2 weeks without any change to how much I exercise…

…the second gave me more money in my bank account every month…

…and the third helped me live in every moment, and appreciate how extraordinary life really is…

The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business

…the first book is The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg…

…I actually am still listening to the audiobook, and it is a very powerful book, written in a way that you want to hear what is going to happen next…

…so, here’s my story…

…while listening to the book as he’s summarizing the kinds of habits people might want to change…

…he mentioned a “snacking habit” and INSTANTLY I realized I had a snacking habit…

…and I decided as the sentence rolled through my ears and into my brain that I would stop snacking…

…I realized that I was just eating chocolate in my office out of habit…

…if it was there, I would grab a piece…

…and that ended up being about 5 pieces a day if there was a good supply under my desk or in the copy room…

…and I wasn’t even hungry…

…sure enough, right then I stopped snacking…

…that was about 2 weeks ago…

…I would go into the copy room and even motion towards the chocolate, then I would ask myself, are you hungry?

…and my response was, NO…

…so then I didn’t eat the snack…

…you know what?

…I’ve lost 3 pounds already and have not been doing anything else different…

…that one sentence brought to my attention that I had this automatic behavior that I wanted to change…

…and I changed it on the spot…

Money is My Friend for the New Millennium: 2nd Edition

…ever start making more money instantly?

…I did after reading Money is My Friend for the New Millennium: 2nd Edition by Phil Laut…

…in it he had a section that discussed why we need to spend the earnings from our Financial Freedom Account (the money that we are saving to become financially free/retire)…

…prior to reading this, I had my dividends being automatically re-invested back into the REIT (stock)…

…I immediately turned off the re-investment, and ever since then, I’ve been paying myself my earnings, and boy does making money feel a lot more fun now!

…instantly, I had a bigger paycheck every month because I was also paying myself!

Way of the Peaceful Warrior: A Book That Changes Lives

…reading Way of the Peaceful Warrior: A Book That Changes Lives by Dan Millman is like reading a novel…

…there was even a movie make about the book…

…it’s entertaining and fun to read…

…a real page turner…

…it was recommended to me by Aaron Rashkin, who spoke to us on stage at an event for our business and said that the book changed his life…

…so I went and read it…

…and WOW, did it change my life…

…there was this one part in the book where the character is told my his mentor to sit all day on a rock and come up with an important and extraordinary idea…

…and he sits there, coming up with ideas and getting sent back, until he has been out there literally all day…

…what does he come up with?

…there are no extraordinary moments…

…so how did that impact me?

…I realized that I had been living with ALIVE TIME and DEAD TIME…

…alive time is like now, when I’m blogging, or when I’m parasailing or surfing…

…dead time was when I was walking up and down the stairs at my bank to process something…

…and I realized that there is no dead time…

…that all of my time is extraordinary…

…and so when I walk up and down the stairs at my bank, sometimes now I will think, what is extraordinary about this moment?

…what is special about RIGHT NOW?

Conclusion

…hope you enjoyed reading about these 3 great books that really impacted my life for the better…

…it’s so true that reading and learning new knowledge on a daily basis will transform your life for the better…

…it’s funny how a lot of people don’t do it…

…they watch tv instead, or gossip with their friends, or listen to music instead, when they could be listening to audio books…

…I’m going to tell you a secret, I’m in a community where we encourage each other to read everyday…

…and we give each other more books to learn from, and we teach each other what we’ve learned…

…and we do this because we want to empower other people…

…empower them to live a better life, to become wealthier, to live up to their fullest potential…
